TCU vs. Texas 2012 final score: Frogs are new lords of Thanksgiving

TCU took a commanding lead in the brand new TCU-Texas Thanksgiving classic, putting down the Horns in Austin for the first time since 1967 as David Ash left with an injury.

Entering Thursday night, Texas appeared on the list of 25 schools still in the official running for BCS bowl bids. That dream is done after the TCU Horned Frogs, taking over for Texas A&M in Texas' annual Thanksgiving rivalry game, dominated Texas for 55 minutes and then held on for the rest, walking away from Austin with a 20-13 victory and bragging rights in the Big 12's newest rivalry.

Texas quarterback David Ash twice had to leave the game, once after his third turnover and the next time after suffering a rib injury. Neither he nor Case McCoy was able to get much going until a touchdown drive with three minutes to go, led by McCoy.

That end really was something -- Texas came alive with about four minutes to go, giving themselves a chance to tie, but McCoy made a desperate throw while on the run with plenty of time, and the third INT of the night for TCU’s secondary sealed it.

Texas has now lost to both of the Big 12’s 2012 newcomers, TCU and West Virginia.

Box score hero: Perhaps TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, who was effective against a talented defense as a passer (seven of nine for 83 and a pick), runner (11 for 85) and option distributor (both Matthew Tucker and B.J. Catalon topped 50 on the ground), but TCU's front line, led by Kenny Cain, Stansly Maponga and Devonte Fields, allowed Texas pretty much nothing until the final minutes. We'll go with like the entire TCU defense.

Rankings ramifications: No. 16 Texas will fall to the 20s, while TCU will enter the same realm. This also complicates things for BCS at-large hopeful Oklahoma, whose best win now looks less impressive.

But did they cover? Texas was favored by 8.5.

Next week: Texas gets to bounce back against an angry Kansas State team that’ll have this weekend off. Good luck! The Frogs wrap it up against Oklahoma, and a mighty nice bowl bid could be on the line for both sides.
