FSU’s Mark Stoops named in Kentucky coaching search

Kentucky has reportedly interviewed current Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops for its head coaching vacancy.

The Kentucky Wildcats have interviewed Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops to potentially fill the school's head coaching vacancy, according to a report by CBSSports.com's Jeremy Fowler.

The Wildcats are searching for a new head coach to replace Joker Phillips, who went 13-24 in his time with Kentucky. Phillips and the Wildcats finished the 2012 season last in the SEC East with an 0-8 conference record and 2-10 mark overall. It was the first time since 2000 that Kentucky went winless in conference play.

Stoops, a finalist for the National Defensive Coordinator of the Year award, led a Seminoles defense that was leading the nation in yards allowed per game coming into Saturday night's rivalry matchup with the Florida Gators. Florida St. held opponents to an average of 236 yards per game in 2012 while allowing an average of 13 points per game.

Before coming to Florida State, Stoops was defensive coordinator at Arizona from 2004-2009.
