Florida International’s head coaching vacancy is attracting some big names around college football. The latest is Houston Nutt, who expressed interest in becoming the school’s next head coach, according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports. Nutt had also expressed interest in Southern Miss and South Florida, according to reports.
Houston Nutt interested in FIU coaching job
The former SEC coach has an interest in taking over at Florida International.
Nutt has plenty of experience on college’s biggest stage as the head coach at both Arkansas and Ole Miss. He has amassed a 135-96 record and won four bowl games, including three wins in the Cotton Bowl.
He last coached at Ole Miss in 2011, but he was fired after winning just two games. It ended a four-year stint at the school.
If he did get the FIU coaching job, he would have his work cut out for him. The school won three games last season and has posted just two winning seasons since jumping to the FBS in 2002. Mario Cristobal had been the head coach at the school for six seasons but was let go after this past year.
