Former Notre Dame QB Everett Golson admits he cheated on test

“Poor judgment,” as Golson put it, cost him his place at Notre Dame, at least for the time being.

Former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson admitted to Sports Illustrated's Andy Staples that cheating on a test was the reason why he was kicked out of school in the spring. Golson still plans to re-enroll in January and return to the football team for the 2014 season.

“I had poor judgment,” Golson said. “It wasn’t due to poor grades or anything like that.”

Here’s part of his interview:

Golson could have looked elsewhere, transferring to another major-college program or going the junior college route, but he said his "heart was set" on returning to South Bend. Assuming he does get readmitted to the school, he figures to compete for the starting job he had in 2012, especially considering that Tommy Rees graduates after this season.

Golson led the Irish to the BCS National Championship Game last season, where the team fell in a blowout to Alabama. He finished the year with 2,405 yards passing and 18 total touchdowns.
