Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson said recently that he plans to return to South Bend once his suspension is over. He was suspended for the fall semester for what he called "poor academic judgment," but will be given a second chance by the school both athletically and academically.

Academic trouble derailed Golson’s Notre Dame career, but he plans to take advantage of a second chance in South Bend.

“I will be returning in the spring, that’s pretty much it,” Golson said Saturday during a charity basketball event in South Carolina. He didn’t elaborate on the nature of his academic suspension.
Golson isn’t currently enrolled at Notre Dame and hasn’t been since May, which prompted speculation that he might consider transferring somewhere else -- one SEC school apparently tried to gauge his potential interest. But Golson has been consistent in his expressed desire to return to South Bend.
If he can pick up in 2014 where he left off, he’ll solidify Notre Dame’s quarterback situation for a couple of seasons. Golson threw for more than 2,400 yards as the starter in 2012, and also had just six interceptions in 318 pass attempts.
In his absence, the Irish appear likely to turn to veteran Tommy Rees, who has started for the team in the past.
