The Mississippi State Bulldogs (6-6, 3-5 SEC) scored a late field goal to force overtime, then stripped Bo Wallace during an apparent game-tying touchdown run to get a 17-10 upset win over Ole Miss (7-5, 3-5 SEC) in the Egg Bowl.

The Bulldogs defense forced an overtime fumble to cement an improbable rivalry win.
A sluggish first half ended with a bang. The hometown Bulldogs got on the board first, when a Bo Wallace interception gave them a short field. A Josh Robinson one-yard plunge finishing a six-play, 30-yard MSU touchdown drive. Ole Miss' next series went nowhere, but the Rebels' defense forced a three-and-out, then blocked a Mississippi State punt in the end zone. Ole Miss recovered the block for a touchdown, and tied the game at halftime despite an inept offense.
Ole Miss opened the second half with its first scoring drive, a 17-play, 81-yard march that ended in a 22-yard field goal by Andrew Ritter. Ole Miss held that lead through much of the fourth quarter, but Dak Prescott led the Bulldogs 59 yards in 13 plays for a game-tying field goal with just over three minutes left to play. After an Ole Miss three-and-out, Prescott again moved the Bulldogs into Ole Miss territory, but the drive stalled at the Rebels’ 36 yard line. Facing 4th and 10, Prescott completed an 11-yard pass to De’Runnya Wilson, keeping the Bulldogs’ hopes alive. Prescott ran to the 21, setting up a 38-yard field goal attempt. Evan Sobiesk’s field goal attempt sailed wide right, though, and the game went to overtime.
In Mississippi State’s first overtime series, Prescott completed a crucial 14-yard pass on 3rd and 15, then ran for a three-yard touchdown on 4th and 1. Ole Miss moved to the 11 yard line in three plays. On 1st and 10 from the 11, Wallace broke through for what appeared to be the game-tying touchdown. Nickoe Whitley had other ideas.
Whitley stripped Wallace of the ball, Jamerson Love recovered the fumble in the end zone, and Mississippi State had a legendary win in the legendary rivalry.
Box Score Hero: Dak Prescott’s numbers were not impressive; 11/20 for 115 passing yards, with nine carries for 29 yards. But Prescott completed a number of crucial passes during Mississippi State’s fourth-quarter comeback, then ran in the game-winning touchdown on a do-or-die 4th and 1. Without him, the Bulldogs don’t win.
Rankings Ramifications: Ole MIss was just outside the Top 25 entering this week. They won’t be re-entering the polls this week.
But Did They Cover? Ole Miss entered as a four-point favorite, and failed to cover.
