Wide receiver Artavis Scott committed to Clemson Tuesday at The Opening, giving the Tigers their 14th pledge in the Class of 2014.
Artavis Scott commits: 4-star WR picks Clemson
Artavis Scott impressed with his vertical at The Opening, and now he’ll join an elite quarterback and another elite wide receiver in Clemson’s class of 2014.

Scott is out of Tarpon Springs (Fla.) East Lake High School and a consensus four-star prospect, according to the major recruiting services. ESPN and Rivals rank him as the 10th- and 11th-best player at his position, respectively, while 247 Sports says he is the No. 20 wide receiver in the class. Scout rates him as the 23rd-best receiver. He joins 5-star quarterback Deshaun Watson, also at The Opening, as well as 4-star wide receiver Demarre Kitt, in Clemson’s class. Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins will be able to hand the reins of Clemson’s passing game over safely.
Scott stands 5’10 and weighs in at 175 pounds. That’s not great size for a receiver, but his ability has garnered 34 offers from across the country. He chose Clemson over Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oklahoma, among others.
SB Nation recruiting expert Bud Elliott is a fan of Scott’s and believes the receiver is one of the best playmakers in the class:
The first thing that jumps off the tape when watching Scott is his quickness. Sure, Scott has blazing speed, but it is the quickness with which he climbs to his top gear that is so impressive. Not only does Scott use his quickness with the ball in hands, with which he is really electric, but also to get open. Scott is deadly on stop-and-go routes. There really aren’t any defenders in high school who can handle him on underneath routes in man coverage. Scott is so quick that East Lake High School even lines him up as a defensive end in pass rushing situations, and asks him to speed around the offensive tackle. Scott does not have the best moves, but he knows it and elects to use his speed and quickness to gain yards.
The Opening is a camp at Nike’s headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., featuring some of the nation’s top prospects. He did this while there:
Artavis Scott just jumped into the stratosphere to pull down a near-TD catch. Extremely impressive elevation.
