Virginia Tech vs. Georgia Tech: Hokies lead after Logan Thomas’ hot start

Virginia Tech leads Georgia Tech, 14-0, early in the second quarter at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta. Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas has yet to throw an incompletion, and his most notable play was a 21-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver D.J. Coles. Thomas also scored on a 5-yard keeper to push the lead to 14-0.

The other main story, aside from Virginia Tech’s insane “Hokie Stone” helmets, was the high number of penalties through one-plus quarter. Each team has four for 20 yards, which has contributed to just nine first downs between the two. Virginia Tech, despite having held the ball for slightly less than time, has out-gained Georgia Tech, 136-70.

Thomas is 9-of-9 for 121 yards and that first touchdown strike to Coles. On the ground, he’s carried four times for 14 yards and VT’s second score.

For Georgia Tech, offense has been much harder to come by. Quarterback Vad Lee is just 1-of-4 for 19 yards and an interception, and the Yellow Jackets have managed just 51 rushing yards on 12 carries (4.3 yards per).
