If Logan Thomas hadn’t begun Thursday night’s game at Georgia Tech on fire, Virginia Tech might not have escaped Bobby Dodd Stadium with a win. The Hokies quarterback engineered a 14-3 halftime lead and Virginia Tech was ultimately able to hold on for a 17-10 win.

The Yellow Jackets kept it interesting, but a hot start from Logan Thomas ultimately carried the Hokies to victory.
Georgia Tech had the ball late in the fourth with a chance to tie the game, but a nine-play drive ended on a fourth-down interception by Virginia Tech.
Thomas finished 19-of-25 for 221 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, he added 58 rushing yards on 16 attempts. As a team, several negative rushing plays limited the Hokies to a collective 55 yards on the ground. That lack of balance never hurt them, though, as the Yellow Jackets were unable to produce steady offense of any stripe.
Virginia Tech scored the game's first 14 points on a short Thomas pass to D.J. Coles in the first quarter and a 5-yard Thomas keeper in the second. Georgia Tech managed a nine-play, 43-yard drive midway through the second, but was unable to muster anything more than a 49-yard field goal.
The third quarter was slow, as Georgia Tech running back David Sims’ two-yard rush produced the only points. That brought the Yellow Jackets to within four points entering the fourth, but Georgia Tech was unable to muster any more production. Virginia Tech added a 39-yard field goal of its own with 10:25 left in the game.
