Virginia Tech vs. Georgia Tech: Hokies lead at halftime

Thanks largely to a fantastic start by quarterback Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech leads Georgia Tech at halftime, 14-3, on Thursday night. The Hokies scored the game’s first 14 points before the Yellow Jackets responded with a 49-yard field goal midway through the second quarter.

Thomas was on fire in the first half, entering the break 11-of-14 for 149 yards and one touchdown. He also recorded seven rushing attempts for 36 yards and a touchdown.

Virginia Tech's first score came on a 21-yard toss from Thomas to wide receiver D.J. Coles after being set up with a short field on a fumble by Georgia Tech quarterback Vad Lee. Georgia Tech actually held the ball for three minutes longer in the half, but Virginia Tech nevertheless holds the yardage advantage, 181-160.

Aside from Thomas, Virginia Tech has just five carries for minus-4 yards. Georgia Tech, though, needs even more help on offense, as Lee completed just 5-of-14 pass attempts. Both teams have also been especially sloppy, with the Yellow Jackets committing six penalties for 30 yards and the Hokies losing 20 yards on four.
