California vs. Oregon final score: Oregon soars in a 55-16 win

The rain doesn’t stop Oregon, apparently. The college football world is still looking for something that will.

You know the saying that when it rains, it pours. Underneath a pouring rainstorm, the Oregon Ducks drenched the California Golden Bears.

Helped by a bevy of first quarter turnovers, Oregon sprinted out 27-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Ducks buried Cal underneath a series of touchdowns, as they have done against every opponent so far this season.

California quarterback Jared Goff had trouble hanging onto the football from the start, and Cal ended up fumbling away its first four possessions, allowing Oregon to begin several drives deep in Bear territory. That advantage was all the Ducks needed. Goff was later pulled for backup quarterback Zach Kline, who had a better time keeping possession of the ball, but only a little more luck actually putting it into the end zone.

One development to watch out of this one is the status of running back De'Anthony Thomas going forward -- the junior running back appeared to hurt his ankle on the opening kickoff and did not return.

Box Score Hero: Byron Marshall, Thomas' replacement, didn't have the easiest of nights hanging onto the ball, but he did manage to rack up 130 yards and two touchdowns. Bralon Addison also returned two punts for touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: Oregon is not likely to move up as a result of this win, as No. 1 Alabama won this week.

But Did They Cover? The line opened at 33 and moved upwards, with Oregon favored by 38 points by kickoff. They did end up covering, if just barely.
