If politicians aren’t making a charming, low-stakes bet involving food on your sporting competition, it probably isn’t that big of a deal. They do it for the Super Bowl, the World Series and now the big time -- the FCS Championship Game, via the NewsTimes.
FCS Championship: Maryland, North Dakota governors engage in adorable, low-stakes bet
Towson and North Dakota State will square off in the FCS Championship Game.

Undefeated two-time defending champion North Dakota State will square off against underdog Towson, so, respective governors, WHAT YA GOT?!
Gov. Jack Dalrymple wagered a case of North Dakota-made Dreamfields low-carb pasta. Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley put up a package of crabcakes.
Maryland predictably puts up crabcakes, because crabcakes, football, otherwise completely forgettable characters in Vince Vaughn movies with one super famous line -- Maryland does it all.
But North Dakota, I think we need to have a talk. Jack. Can I call you Jack? The game is Saturday. That means you have more than enough time to come up with something better than low-carb pasta. It’s now abundantly clear to us Marylanders that you forgot about us, and that when Marty called you to double-check we were exchanging bets this year, you were just already in the pasta aisle and are feeling a little less than inventive this championship season.
Just because the Bison have won the last two FCS championships doesn’t mean you can just mail it in like this. Let’s take a look at some other options -- oh hey, there’s an entire Wikipedia page on the “cuisine of North Dakota.”
On second thought, that page is four paragraphs long and heavily mentions lutefisk, a Norwegian dish in which fish is soaked in literal poison. We’ll take the pasta.
