The Air Force Academy has claimed their first Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy since 2011 after beating Army, 23-6, on Saturday. The Falcons took down Navy, 30-21, on Oct. 4 to give them the season sweep over their service academy rivals.

Army actually jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but Air Force reeled off 16 straight points to give themselves a comfortable margin. Jacobi Owens led the team with 118 rushing yards and Kale Pearson went 8 of 12 for 141 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
This is the 19th time that the Air Force Academy has claimed the trophy, which is the most among the three academies. Navy is fairly close behind at 14 and Army has won it six times. The Falcons won it back-to-back in 2010-11, but Navy has won it every other season going back to 2003.
Aside from the trophy, the win also makes Air Force bowl eligible once again after a one-year absence in 2013. Barring the unlikely occurrence of the Falcons not being invited or turning down a bowl invitation, the program will go to a bowl for seven of the eight years of Troy Calhoun’s tenure in Colorado Springs.
