UPDATE: Abdullah has been ruled out for the rest of the game. Jack Hoffman, your thoughts?
Jack Hoffman on Ameer Abdullah injury: ‘It sucks’
The Huskers’ star rusher will not return today.
(For those that are not familiar, Jack Hoffman is the young cancer patient that scored a touchdown at the 2013 Nebraska spring game.)
Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah will not return to Nebraska's game against Purdue, according to the ESPN2 broadcast. Abdullah hurt his knee trying to recover a fumble from Tommy Armstrong in the first quarter.
Abdullah is quite possibly the best running back in the country this year, and should be an easy pick to be a Heisman finalist if he can remain healthy. He has 1,249 yards on only 180 carries for a robust 6.9 yards per carry, and has scored 17 touchdowns on the ground along with two receiving.
Considering the Huskers should be able to handle Purdue fairly easily, it’s entirely possible that they’re holding him out as a precaution. There will be a lot of baited breath in Lincoln until more information is known about his status. Imani Cross should get the bulk of the carries in Abdullah’s absence.
The Huskers are up 7-0 on Purdue with the game now in the second quarter.
