Les Miles denies having had contact with Michigan

The LSU coach and Michigan grad has been a rumored candidate for the vacancy in Ann Arbor. Now? Not so much.

During a Monday press conference, LSU coach Les Miles denied that either he or his agent has been contacted by Michigan regarding their current football coach opening, according to Ben Love of Scout’s LSU affiliate:

Love went on to write that Miles strongly hinted that he was not interested in leaving Baton Rouge:

Previous reports had indicated that Michigan contacted Miles over a week ago to gauge his interest in the position.

Miles, who played at Michigan under the legendary Bo Schembechler and spent eight seasons as offensive line coach with the Wolverines, has been the head coach at LSU since 2005. The Bayou Bengals have won a national championship, two SEC titles and three division crowns under Miles.

The 61-year-old Miles has been connected with Michigan vacancies in the past, and was forced to deny similar rumors before the 2007 National Championship Game and in 2010, following the firing of Rich Rodriguez. Subsequent reporting from John U. Bacon have indicated that Miles was never offered the Michigan job on those occasions.

Michigan fired Brady Hoke on December 2 after a 5-7 season. His replacement, when chosen, will be Michigan’s third head coach in the seven years since Lloyd Carr retired after the 2007 season.
