Never, ever, ever go to sleep, college football fans. If you did, you missed a game-winning Hail Mary in a thrilling Pac-12 shootout, with Arizona scoring 36 points in the fourth quarter in a preposterous comeback.
Arizona beats Cal on last-second Hail Mary from Anu Solomon to Austin Hill
Heartbreak for Cal, as Arizona culminated an 18-point fourth-quarter comeback with a 47-yard hail mary strike.
After going 1-11 last year, Cal looked primed to remain undefeated and earn their first Pac-12 win with Sonny Dykes as head coach after taking a 31-13 lead into the fourth quarter. Then all hell broke loose, as Arizona scored five touchdowns in the final period, three in the final 3:30, and four off of Anu Solomon touchdowns.
The Wildcats recovered one onside kick, but the Golden Bears had the chance to ice the win after recovering one up two with under three minutes to go. Instead their kicker missed a 47-yarder with 52 seconds to go, and Arizona got the ball into Hail Mary range with a few ticks left on the clock. Solomon reared back, Austin Hill somehow got to the ball amidst a cloud of yellow shirts, and Arizona went wild while Cal’s hearts were broken. Final score Arizona 49, Cal 45.
