Can Clemson recover after another loss on the national stage? The Tigers will get a chance to do so Saturday, when they host North Carolina at Memorial Stadium.
How to watch Clemson vs. North Carolina: Game guide, TV/streaming, odds
Can the Tigers get back to .500 after another loss to a ranked team?
Clemson opened the season on the road at Georgia, surrendering 24 unanswered points in the second half to fall to a 45-21 defeat. The Tigers responded resoundingly in Week 2, beating up on FCS South Carolina State to the tune of a 73-7 victory. They couldn’t quite take advantage of a Jameis Winston-less Florida State last week, falling on the road to the Seminoles, 23-17 in overtime, but they get a chance for another home victory this time around.
North Carolina struggled early in its opener against FCS Liberty, but rode a strong second half to a 56-29 victory. Week 2 against San Diego State didn’t go much better, and the Tar Heels required a last-second interception in the end zone to come away with the victory against the Aztecs. Last time out, North Carolina was walloped by new ACC Coastal overlord East Carolina, 70-41.

The numbers
Rankings and records: Neither team is ranked in either poll. The Tigers are 1-2 with an 0-1 record in ACC play, putting them last in the Atlantic. The Tar Heels are 2-1, and this is their ACC opener. Clemson holds a 35-19-1 lead in the all-time series.
Vegas: Clemson opened as a 10-point favorite. The line has since moved to 14.5. The over/under is 67 points.
Weather forecast: 59 degrees and clear skies.
Two things at stake
With a fairly easy schedule until a season-ending clash against South Carolina, a double-digit win season is technically still on the table for Clemson.
North Carolina suffered a disappointing loss of its own last week, and a win here would put the Heels right back as one of the strong favorites in the wide-open Coastal.
One big matchup
Deshaun Watson vs. North Carolina’s defense. The true freshman finally won the starting job over Cole Stoudt in the Tigers’ loss to Florida State, and he will be making his first career start Saturday against the Tar Heels. Watson saw some action against Georgia and South Carolina State, but it wasn’t until the game against the Seminoles that he was able to lead a number of consecutive drives. A dual-threat option, Watson has five total touchdowns this season (with zero interceptions) and is averaging 11.7 yards per pass attempt.
North Carolina’s secondary has struggled in its past two outings, giving up 341 passing yards to San Diego State and 446 (with four touchdowns) to East Carolina. The Tar Heels do have playmakers, however -- they’ve picked off six passes so far this season, including three interceptions from sophomore cornerback Brian Walker.
