Rankings time. Ohio State and Michigan State are the top two teams in the AP Poll, while Auburn somehow ended up No. 25 in the Coaches Poll, despite nearly losing to Jacksonville State and being manhandled by LSU.
Somehow, after that, Auburn is ranked in the Coaches Poll
Good morning! It’s your wakeup roundup of college football stuff.
But according to Spencer Hall, Notre Dame and Ole Miss are the two best teams in the country.
Road favorites. Odds are out for this week’s games, courtesy of OddsShark, and No. 9 UCLA opened as a 4.5-point favorite at No. 16 Arizona in the College GameDay game. And elsewhere in L.A.-Arizona action, No. 19 USC is a 6-point favorite at Arizona State. The SEC has some interesting lines, as well. Kentucky is a 2.5-point favorite over No. 25 Missouri, while Auburn is a 3.5-point favorite against Mississippi State.
Fournette’s domination. If any running back can win the Heisman, it’s LSU’s Leonard Fournette. (The Auburn player who said he wasn’t so worried about Fournette? Here he is wisely declining to try and tackle the running back.)
Rebels rolling. After its impressive road win over Alabama, Ole Miss is the No. 1 seed in Sunday’s new bowl projections, joining Ohio State, Notre Dame and Baylor.
Speaking of Ole Miss-Alabama. Crimson Tide fans made some very fun faces during the loss. From the Ole Miss perspective, it was one of the craziest games we’ve ever seen, and Rebel fans are still coming to terms with how good this team is.
After Iowa kicked a 57-yard field goal to beat Pitt, the celebration ended up trampling some cheerleaders. (Everyone’s believed to be OK.)
Carolina blues. South Carolina is in big trouble. Can the program rebound? Can it rebuild under Steve Spurrier?
Horns down. Texas lost to Cal, meaning Vince Young lost a bet and had to wear a Cal shirt.
Comeback crushed. Nebraska staged a massive comeback against Miami, but the Huskers are 1-2 after more familiar mistakes.
Ya Heard? QB Jerrod Heard looks like the real deal for Texas. Take a look at his record-setting day in perspective.
Misstated mission facts. For some reason, lots of people think BYU players have an advantage for doing missionary work. That’s not really true, but let’s reach for some possible advantages, anyway.
Terrific Tech. Kliff Kingsbury took some heat last year, but after a win at Arkansas, are things on their way up at Texas Tech?
