LSU’s Leonard Fournette announced earlier this month that he would forgo his senior season and head to the NFL.
Leonard Fournette is ending his LSU career before the bowl game, and it’s the smart move
Go get healthy, and then get paid big fella.

On Friday, he announced that his LSU career is in fact over right now. The running back will miss LSU’s bowl game against Louisville in order to prepare for the draft.
But this isn’t as selfish as it looks on its face. Before you get the hot take cannon primed and aimed squarely at Baton Rouge, remember the fact that Fournette has been absolutely dogged by an ankle injury suffered in preseason camp.
He missed five games this season, and should have probably missed a sixth if not for motivation to play given to him by a pregame fracas ahead of the Florida game. It was initially reported as an ankle sprain back in August, and it’s clear that it never fully healed.
He’s also not exactly leaving LSU high and dry. Derrius Guice is an extremely capable back who is far from a slouch.
This is probably best for all parties involved. Fournette doesn’t risk injury that would only further erode his draft stock, and LSU gets to operate about as normally as possible with Guice toting the rock. There’s also no longer a distraction surrounding the game about whether Fournette will or won’t suit up.
