The latest trend in college football appears to be future NFL stars making a decision about whether to play in their teams’ bowl games.
Myles Garrett declares he’ll play in Texas A&M’s bowl, because that’s a thing now
We haven’t seen the last of the Aggie defensive end just yet.

On Monday morning, Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey announced he would be skipping Stanford’s Sun Bowl to prepare for the NFL draft. LSU running back Leonard Fournette announced on Friday that he would be skipping LSU’s Citrus Bowl against Louisville.
On Monday afternoon, Texas A&M’s defensive end Myles Garrett announced that he will in fact play in the Aggies’ bowl game against Kansas State.
“I plan to practice today and prepare to play in the bowl game with my teammates,” Myles Garrett said in a statement.
Garrett has not declared for the draft, but he’s a junior and has a high draft stock, so it’s expected that he will. It was reported last week that Garrett has “enamored” the Cleveland Browns, who likely have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
McCaffrey’s announcement set off a mix of opinions about whether it was the right or wrong thing to do. Former Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot weighed in on Twitter Monday about how he thought players should finish the season with their team. He then later admitted that McCaffrey and Fournette’s injuries this season justifies them missing out on bowl games.
We’ll see if any other college players make an announcement about their bowl games, as this appears to be the new thing.
