The Texas Bowl between Texas A&M and Kansas State gets underway this Wednesday evening, and as if this bowl game wasn’t Texas enough, these two teams participated in a rodeo a few days before kickoff, per bowl tradition. Apparently, winning this was a pretty big deal to the Kansas State players.
Kansas State ‘rodeo-ed the [insert swear word of your choice]’ out of Texas A&M
The winner of the pre-Texas Bowl rodeo has won the game nine out of 10 times.
“Bragging rights,” said K-State defensive tackle Matt Seiwert via the Wichita-Eagle. “We are an agricultural school, they are an agricultural school. We wanted to win.”
“We have to win at rodeo,” said K-State defensive end Tanner Wood. “We are the biggest agricultural school in the United States. We have to win.”
K-State ended up beating Texas A&M, also an agricultural school, in five out of the seven total rodeo events. Some of the events included cattle herding, goat milking, and bale tossing.
Kansas State’s recruiting coordinator, Taylor Braet, summed up the victory in the most hilarious way possible, too.
Braet playfully added that he didn’t think “heck” needed to be bleeped out, which of course we’re sure is exactly the word he used.
Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin, despite his team’s defeat, won the hat game after the rodeo. I mean look at this thing.
The rodeo win may help the Wildcats in the actual game on Wednesday — in all 10 of the years this bowl has been played, there has been a rodeo contest between the two teams. The winner of the rodeo has gone on to win nine of those Texas Bowls. The one team that didn’t? Kansas State, in the first-ever Texas Bowl back in 2006. That 37-10 loss to Rutgers marked the worst bowl loss in school history.
The Aggies are currently 2.5-point favorites over K-State, so we’ll see how much weight this rodeo holds this year.
