2016 Citrus Bowl odds: LSU minus Fournette a slim betting favorite against Louisville

The LSU Tigers face one of the best offenses in the nation taking on the Louisville Cardinals as field-goal betting favorites in the Citrus Bowl.

The LSU Tigers are 5-2 straight up and against the spread in their last seven games against teams with winning records. The Tigers will try to earn another win against a tough foe this Saturday in the Citrus Bowl against the Louisville Cardinals.

LSU is a 3-point favorite in Orlando at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last three games against ACC opponents, the Tigers are 0-3 ATS.

With a 5-2 SU and ATS record after taking over as interim head coach for the LSU Tigers, Ed Orgeron had the interim tag removed and became the program’s new head coach in the wake of the mid-season firing of Les Miles.

The Tigers have played well in their brief stint under Orgeron, but lack a signature win against a team of Louisville’s caliber. LSU will have to try and get that win without their best offensive player as running back Leonard Fournette has announced his intention to skip this game to prepare for the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Tigers are 13-6 SU in their last 19 bowl games, but just 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS over their last five per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Betting Line / Total: LSU -3 / 59.5 Points

Trend: Louisville is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games after consecutive losses.

Trend: The total has gone under in 11 of LSU’s last 15 games.

Lamar Jackson finished the regular season with 3,390 passing yards and 30 passing touchdowns to go along with 1,538 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns, picking up a much deserved Heisman Trophy for his efforts. But the regular season ended on a low note for Louisville as the team put up back-to-back clunkers in a 36-10 loss to Houston as a 17-point favorite and a 41-38 loss to Kentucky as a 27.5-point favorite.

Louisville is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games after consecutive losses, and the team will have the chance to end the year on a high note with an upset win.

Saturday’s total is set at 59.5 points. The OVER is 12-5 in Louisville’s last 17 games.

LSU prides itself on having an elite defense, ranking sixth in the nation in scoring defense allowing only 16.4 points per game this season. The Tigers defense will be put to the ultimate test on Saturday against Jackson and a Louisville offense that racked up 45.3 points per game in 2016.
