Western Michigan’s Corey Davis is one of the more prolific receivers in the recent history of college football. He’s been a stud this year for the unbeaten Broncos, and he balled out in the Cotton Bowl, as he does.
WMU WR Corey Davis came out of nowhere to make this TD catch between Wisconsin DBs
Here’s an example of why you’ll see Davis in the NFL next year.
This touchdown came on fourth-and-4 from the Wisconsin 11-yard line, with the Badgers leading by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. It kept WMU alive in a game that would’ve effectively ended otherwise. WMU did go on to lose shortly thereafter, but anyway, let’s appreciate Davis being good and making a good catch.
Quarterback Zach Terrell was under pressure, chased from the pocket, and threw up a complete prayer. Davis did what Davis does, which is to say he ran after the ball, jumped over Wisconsin cornerback Sojourn Shelton (who’s a really good player in his own right) and hauled in a chance-preserving touchdown in his team’s biggest game.
Davis will be playing on Sundays next season, because he has top-end speed, great hands, and rare athleticism. He demonstrates here that he’s a ball hawk, too.
Davis entered the Cotton Bowl with 91 catches this season for 1,427 yards and 18 touchdowns. He’s proving he can beat elite defenses, too, not just ones in the MAC.
