Alabama players are poking fun at UCF’s lack of national title trophy

They’ve got a point!

UCF claims college football’s national championship for 2017. The Knights went 13-0 and are dead serious about their claim. It’s all fine and good. Alabama is the official national champion, having beaten Georgia to win the Playoff National Championship.

The NFL honored the Knights at the Pro Bowl in Orlando on Sunday:

And that prompted Alabama running back Damien Harris to ask:

He added:

It’s a compelling question.

Harris was the leading rusher for Alabama in 2017, topping a backfield that included several other blue-chip runners. Harris finished with an even 1,000 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns, plus a blocked punt, because Alabama is like that.

Alabama defensive end Isaiah Buggs got in on the fun, too:

UCF then pointed out that it wouldn’t have a problem facing Alabama. Some Knights fans even put a billboard up in Tuscaloosa asking for a home-and-home.

Aaaand Buggs also reminded UCF who has the actual trophy:

UCF’s title claim is absolutely reasonable in the historical context of power-conference teams claiming dubious titles. The Knights were the only FBS team not to lose, and they don’t need to make much more of an argument than that.

Before the title game, Nick Saban and Kirby Smart indicated that they thought UCF’s claim was somewhere between cute and annoying. Saban likely hasn’t lost sleep over it.

Again, there’s only one team that has the trophy, for what it’s worth:
