There are plenty of NFL teams that needed a quarterback coming into this season, but unfortunately there just aren’t enough NFL starting quarterbacks in the world. And there really weren’t many in the draft. But, the Tennessee Titans did invest the No. 1 pick in Cam Ward to be their starter from Day 1. He is currently the only rookie quarterback who will start in Week 1. And his draft capital will give him plenty of time to improve, while reports have been positive this summer. He is easily the No. 1 quarterback in dynasty league rookie drafts and a top pick in 2QB leagues.

QB’s who have an avenue to playing time this season
Jaxson Dart, Giants
The Giants appear set on starting Russell Wilson this season, but they also invested heavily in Dart, selecting him with the 25th overall pick. We know Wilson is on the downside of his career and won’t be a longterm answer at the position, but the team hopes they can get a consistent season out of him and a shot at the playoffs, led by their dominant defensive line. If that doesn’t work out, we can expect to see Dart this season at some point.
The rookie has gotten off to a good start in preseason, as he completed 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown against the Bills. He also rushed for 24 yards on 3 carries. He has sneaky good rushing ability, which is always a plus for fantasy, but we can’t extrapolate too much from a Week 1 preseason game. The good news is that he has a real shot at playing this season, possibly giving him a good runway for the 2026 season.
Tyler Shough, Saints
The Saints were put into a bind when their starting quarterback, Derek Carr, retired from the game. To help replace him, they drafted Shough as the eighth pick in the second round. And so far he hasn’t been able to beat out Spencer Rattler for the job. That’s not a good sign. He still has a shot at starting Week 1, but it would be a surprise to see him hold onto the job all season. He’ll get his chances, which might be helpful in a deep 2QB league, but his upside does not look appealing.
Jalen Milroe, Seahawks
Milroe remains the QB3 behind Sam Arnold and Drew Lock, but his ability as a runner could get him into games sooner than usual. He showed off his speed in the first preseason game, but didn’t do much through the air. If he can develop as a passer and get on the field with more consistency, he has fantasy upside much higher than other QBs taken in similar spots in the draft.
Dillon Gabriel/Shedeur Sanders, Browns
The Browns went with quarterbacks in the fourth and fifth rounds to work toward making up for their terrible decision to sign Deshaun Watson. They also added Joe Flacco, who is the current QB1 and former first round pick on his third team, Kenny Pickett. Gabriel went in the third and Sanders in the fourth and that’s where they’ve been on the depth chart this summer. An oblique injury will likely keep Sanders out of the second preseason game after a strong preseason performance in Week 1. Gabriel will likely get his chance to prove himself in Week 2, but neither will pass Flacco as the starter and at this point Pickett will probably be the backup to start the season. But, if this season goes south for the Browns, both quarterbacks will get a chance to move up on the depth chart.
