Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is finally here and opening weekend will continue on Sunday with the Arizona Cardinals visiting the New Orleans Saints at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
Rashid Shaheed start or sit: Week 1 fantasy football advice
We break down the fantasy football outlook of Rashid Shaheed ahead of the Saints’ Week 1 opener against the Cardinals.

The Saints are coming off a miserable 5-12 season in 2024 and there isn’t much expectation for them to improve upon that in Year 1 of the Kellen Moore era. Starting quarterback Spencer Rattler will have a few interesting pieces to work with on offense, one of which being fourth-year wide receiver Rashid Shaheed. He enters the year with an ADP (average draft position) in the 51-53 range across multiple scoring formats according to FantasyPros, making him a late-round backup option for fantasy managers.
Below, we’ll go over Shaheed’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 1.
Fantasy Football analysis: Saints WR Rashid Shaheed
Shaheed was well on his way to a breakout season in 2024 before a torn meniscus ended his season on October. The wideout recorded 20 receptions for 349 yards and three touchdowns through six games and also added value on special teams, averaging a league-high 15.9 yards per punt return and taking one to the house against the Buccaneers in Week 6.
Now healthy entering the 2025 season, people around the Saints organization are high on Shaheed coming out of training camp and think that he could become a breakout star. He’ll be the No. 2 receiver option behind Chris Olave and will once again be the primary punt returner for the team.
Start or sit in Week 1 standard/PPR leagues?
Sit. As with most late-round backups, it’d be wise to play it safe and take a wait-and-see approach in Week 1. The door is wide open for a number of weapons like Shaheed to step up for the Saints this season and if he picks up where he left off last year prior to the injury, then he’ll definitely be on the radar as a good Flex play moving forward.
