We break down the fantasy football outlook of Travis Hunter ahead of the Jaguars’ Week 1 opener against the Panthers.

The Jags cleaned house after an abysmal 4-13 season one year ago and the team will start fresh in 2025 with first-year head coach Liam Coen. One of the biggest points of excitement for the team heading into the new campaign is the debut of Travis Hunter, who could be a two-way superstar for the franchise for years to come. He enters the year with an ADP (average draft position) in the 30-32 range across multiple scoring formats according to FantasyPros, so fantasy managers are already tabbing him as a low WR2/Flex option right out the gate.
Below, we’ll go over Hunters’ outlook in fantasy football for Week 1.
Fantasy Football analysis: Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter
Hunter, of course, was the No. 2 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft this past April and enters the league coming off one of the most legendary seasons in college football history. The two-way superstar from Colorado secured the Heisman Trophy, the Biletnikoff Award, and the Bednarik Award last year with dominant seasons at both wide receiver and cornerback. He hauled in 96 targets for 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on offense and turned around to produce 25 solo tackles, 11 passes defensed, four interceptions, and a fumble recovery on defense.
The rookie will continue his two-way prowess in Jacksonville, but not quite at the same level as in college. He will be a primary receiver weapon for Trevor Lawrence on offense, but be a backup cornerback according the team’s unofficial depth chart. It remains to be seen how he’ll fare juggling this responsibility as a rookie and if he has success, he’ll be a cheat code for managers who were fortunate enough to take him in IDP leagues.
Start or sit in Week 1 standard/PPR leagues?
Start. Coen orchestrated one of the more lethal passing attacks in the league as the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator last year and the potential is there for the Jags offense to explode this season. That’s a perfect situation for a rookie like Hunter to walk into and he should thrive next to second-year star Brian Thomas Jr. I can easily imagine the No. 2 overall pick making a handful of big plays in his debut and I’d make sure to get him into my starting lineup immediately.
