Things were looking good for the Bears in the Monday-night opener against the Vikings until a fourth-quarter Minnesota surge doomed them to a 27-24 loss to start the new year. The game marked the NFL debut of first-round tight end Colston Loveland, who the team is hoping will make bigger contributions as his rookie year rolls along.
Below, we’ll go over Loveland’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 2.
Fantasy Football analysis: Bears TE Colston Loveland
Fantasy managers who started the first-round pick got immediately burned in Week 1 as Loveland turned in just two receptions for 12 yards in his debut. He was on the field for 57% of the offensive snaps in the game, but commanded a paltry 5.9% target share in the opener. Bears tight ends were a non-factor in this game as a whole as starter Cole Kmet only had four targets in this game as well, bringing in a lone reception for 38 yards.
Start or sit in Week 2 PPR leagues?
Sit. The potential is there for Loveland to eventually blossom into a primary target for Caleb Williams, but you may want to stash him on your bench and look elsewhere in the early weeks of the regular season. That’s especially the case this week as the Bears are going up against a Lions team that gave up the least fantasy points to tight ends in the NFL last year. Also, given the familiarity Detroit has with former OC and new Bears head coach Ben Johnson, this is a matchup nightmare for Loveland.
