The 2-1 Arizona Cardinals host the 2-1 Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football as 1.5-point home dogs. This divisional matchup went to the Seahawks both times last year, but this time around Seattle has Sam Darnold as their signal caller and the Cardinals are without their RB1, James Conner, who is out for the season with a severe ankle injury.

Conner’s absence gives a big opportunity to sophomore backup and starter in waiting, Trey Benson. Benson was an early round 3 pick in 2024 who ran a 4.39 at the combine and has traits to be an every down back in the league. He will cede some work to passing down specialist Emari Demercado, but he should be in line for 20+ touches per game as a runner and receiver, giving him good upside in fantasy.

Below, we’ll go over Trey Benson’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 4.

Fantasy Football analysis: Cardinals, RB, Trey Benson

This matchup isn’t great for Benson’s first post-Conner injury start, but it will have to do. They are only giving up 3.2 yards per carry, which is third-best in the league. They’ve faced Christian McCaffrey, Jaylen Warren and Alvin Kamara so far. The one good stat for opposing backs is that they’ve given up the second-most receptions and the most receiving yards. And amazingly Kamara only had one reception for 14 yards. Most the damage was done by McCaffrey and Warren.

Benson is a capable receiver and will see plenty of pass routes despite Demercado getting a good chunk of obvious passing down. This isn’t a great matchup by any means though, which pushes Benson out of must-start status in shallow leagues.

Start or sit in Week 4 PPR leagues?

Start. As long as you’re in a 12 team league, Benson is a must start. And probably a must start in 10 team leagues as long as you aren’t stacked at the position.

Start or sit in Week 4 standard leagues?

Start.
