KaVontae Turpin start or sit: Week 4 fantasy football advice

The Dallas Cowboys take on the Green Bay Packers at home in Week 4. They are 6.5 point underdogs at home, likely due to multiple key injuries and their bad defense. They are currently down two offensive linemen and their best offensive player, CeeDee Lamb. Trying to replace Lamb is going to be impossible, but George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin will do their best to pick up the slack against a good Packers defense.

Below, we’ll go over KaVontae Turpin’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 4.

Turpin is one of the best return men in the league, but also has shown ability in the offense. So far he has seen nine targets and five rushing opportunities through three games. Amazingly Turpin has turned his eight receptions into 129 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 19 more yards. There’s no doubt that an increase in work would result in strong fantasy upside, but will he get those extra looks?

Turpin is the primary slot man, which is usually a good spot for targets, but he didn’t really see a bump after Lamb went down last week. I would expect a week of practice, knowing Lamb is out, will help Turpin end up with a bump in work. We know his upside in open space, so he doesn’t need a ton of targets to be useful for fantasy. The trouble this week is the matchup. If he got to play his own defense, he’d be a strong start.

So far, the Packers are third-best in fantasy points allowed to wide receivers and best when you adjust for schedule. No receiver has topped 48 yards receiving and that was Terry McLaurin on nine targets and in Week 1 they completely shut down the Lions top receivers.

Sit. I still like his upside, but this matchup and the unknowns around his usage are a bit too risky for me.
