Darius Slayton start or sit: Week 5 fantasy football advice

The New York Giants got their first win of the season against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. That won also coincided with the team starting their rookie QB Jaxson Dart for the first time. Unfortunately, that win came with a tough loss, as WR Malik Nabers went down with a torn ACL. His loss is a huge blow to the Giants’ offense. They’ll now try to piece together their passing offense without the star, and the two most important pieces to that puzzle are WanDale Robinson and Darius Slayton.

Below, we’ll go over Darius Slayton’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 5.

The Giants and Jaxson Dart get a good matchup to test their Nabers-less offense against, as the Saints host the Giants in New Orleans. So far, the Saints rank bottom-four in EPA and DVOA allowed to the passing game. So far, they’ve allowed strong games to Marvin Harrison Jr. (5-71-1), Jauan Jennings (5-89-1), Jaxon Smith-Njigba (5-96-1), and Khalil Shakir (5-69-1).

The matchup is good, but the question will be just how much work will Slayton get with Nabers out and Dart starting? In his first game with Dart, Slayton led the team in receptions and receiving yards, which sounds great until you realize he caught just 3-of-4 targets for 44 yards. That did come against a good Chargers defense though. Dart only threw for 111 yards, getting much of his offense on the ground.

Dart should have a little easier time this week finding open receivers, as New Orleans is near the bottom in pressure rate. That should also allow Slayton more time to get open deep, where he does a lot of his damage. The Saints haven’t given up a touchdown where the target was 20 yards down field yet, so that is concerning, but I’d also expect Slayton’s target volume to rise. So far his high is just four targets in a game.

Sit. This is probably a situation to wait on, as we don’t know how good Dart is going to be as a passer. We also don’t know if he has any deep connection with Slayton. In PPR I’d for sure take a wait to see attitude.

Sit. If you need him due to bye weeks, standard leagues are best for Slayton. His chances of grabbing a deep touchdown are the best out of the group, but again, I would very much like to see him get a useful target load first.
