Week 6 of the fantasy football season is here! But, before we move on, let’s take a look at the top running back plays of Week 5. The Top 5 PPR running backs consisted of some familiar names this season, like Jonathon Taylor, Kyren Williams, and Christian McCaffrey, but their were some new names at the top this week.

The Panthers Rico Dowdle absolutely went off, rushing for 206 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, while catching three passes for 28 more yards. He got the opportunity due to Chuba Hubbard missing the game with a calf injury, but Hubbard looks like he’ll be back this week, muddying the water in the Panthers’ backfield.
The other back who had a nice breakout was Washington’s Jacory Croskey-Merritt. Croskey-Merrit ran the ball 14 times for 111 yards, two touchdowns and a lost fumble, while catching his two targets for 39 yards. This was the first start of his young career and he saw an uptick in snaps. He’s still not getting a workload you can rely on, but he’s getting goal line carries and more work than his previous games. And with his strong Week 5, he should only earn more snaps.

RB injuries
Omarion Hampton, Chargers
What a bad break for the Chargers and Hampton’s fantasy backers. The rookie injured his ankle in Week 5 and will go to the PUP list for at least four weeks. Hassan Haskins will take over the lead role, while Kimani Vidal looks like he’ll serve as his backup.
Chuba Hubbard, Panthers
Hubbard missed last weeks game, which helped Rico Dowdle go over 200 yards rushing. Hubbard has a good chance of returning this week against the Cowboys. If he does, it would be tough to just forget about Dowdle’s big game, especially as he returns to the team he started for last season.
Bucky Irving, Buccaneers
Irving missed last week’s game against the Seahawks with a shoulder and foot injury and it looks like he has a good chance to miss this week against the Lions on Monday night. If he does, Rachaad White would once again take over the lead role. Last week he ran the ball 14 times for 41 yards and two touchdowns, while adding catching all four of his targets for 30 yards.
Jaylen Warren, Steelers
The Steelers running back had the bye week to rest his knee and it seems he is back on track to play against the Browns in Week 6. It’s a tough matchup, but he had been seeing a big chunk of the running back touches before his injury.

Hassan Haskins, Chargers vs. Dolphins
Hasskins was the back to take over after Omarion Hampton’s injury last week and now he gets a good matchup against a bad Dolphins defense. You know, the defense that just gave up over 200 yards rushing to Rico Dowdle last week?
Michael Carter, Cardinals vs. Colts
Carter will take on a good Colts run defense this week, but with 18 rushing attempts and five receptions on five targets last week, he is solidly the No. 1 option for the Cardinals. Volume should be able to offset the tough matchup enough to roll your new waiver wire acquisition out as a flex play.
