Welcome to Week 6 of the NFL season. We’ve now analyzed five weeks worth of games for fantasy, which means our brains are likely mush already. But we shall persist! The top tight ends haven’t really been at the top much this season. Both Brock Bowers and George Kittle have been injured and Trey McBride continues to night find the end zone with any frequency on a non-serious team.

But, that means other tight ends have stepped up in fantasy. Through five weeks, Jake Ferguson, Dalton Kincaid, and rookie Tyler Warren are your Top 3 fantasy tight ends. Kittle will be back sooner than later and hopefully Bowers will get his knee injury taken care of, while McBride sits at the TE4 on the season.

George Kittle, 49ers
Kittle could return this week, but if he doesn’t, it seems likely he’s back by Week 7. His presence is very much needed by the 49ers both as a blocker and receiver. San Francisco could get Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings back this week also. If they get that kind of windfall, it might be tough to predict who gets a good workload for fantasy, but all three would be startable in most leagues.
Brock Bowers, Raiders
Bowers’ knee injury finally got the better of him and he had to sit out last week. At this point I’d expect the team to make sure he is at least close to 100% before bringing him back, as Bowers has not looked like his old self since he suffered the injury. If he can go, he’s always a must start at a weak position.
Brenton Strange, Jaguars
Strange appeared to be on his way to becoming a useful fantasy player, but an injury on Monday night has thrown a wrench in those plans for now. He has been placed on injured reserve with a hip injury, so he will need to miss at least four games. Hunter Long will take over the lead role and has some TE2 appeal.

Harold Fannin, Browns vs. Steelers
With Dillon Gabriel in to start for the Browns, it was David Njoku who led the team in targets in Week 5. Harold Fannin only had four on the day, but he did catch all four, including a 1-yard touchdown. I expect he’ll remain a strong target for Gabriel and it very much looks like the Browns two tight ends are also their two best receivers. This week they take on a Steelers defense that has allowed the third-most fantasy points to tight ends on the season.
Taysom Hill, Saints vs. Patriots
Hill was eased back last week, but still had six carries and a 19 yard pass completion. He didn’t do much with those looks, but seven touches for a tight end is worth investigating further. Who knows if Hill can use his Swiss Army knife role to be a strong fantasy tight end again, but it sure looks like Kellen Moore is going to use him like the team has in the past. I like his touchdown upside as a runner and then whatever else he can come up with.
