Chet Gresham takes us through the top 100 standard running backs for Week 6

Week 6 is here! It’s been a fun season, but injuries continue to provide our fantasy teams with sadness. The latest is Omarion Hampton, who looked poised to go off after Najee Harris went down with his own injury. James Conner’s and then Trey Benson’s injuries just seem like a cruel joke to those of us who had both rostered! But so far, running backs haven’t had quite the trouble that wide receivers have. Does that mean the Zero RB strategy is dead? No, but we continue to learn that every strategy, if taken as gospel, can end up flipping us over. Picking great football players who play a whole bunch of NFL football, who also don’t get injured, is impossible. And as usual, this game isn’t all about drafting your team. Waivers and trades continue to be a huge part of coming out ahead in the end.

Omarion Hampton, Chargers

What a bad break for the Chargers and Hampton’s fantasy backers. The rookie injured his ankle in Week 5 and will go to the PUP list for at least four weeks. Hassan Haskins will take over the lead role, while Kimani Vidal looks like he’ll serve as his backup.

Chuba Hubbard, Panthers

Hubbard missed last weeks game, which helped Rico Dowdle go over 200 yards rushing. Hubbard has a good chance of returning this week against the Cowboys. If he does, it would be tough to just forget about Dowdle’s big game, especially as he returns to the team he started for last season.

Bucky Irving, Buccaneers

Irving missed last week’s game against the Seahawks with a shoulder and foot injury and it looks like he has a good chance to miss this week against the Lions on Monday night. If he does, Rachaad White would once again take over the lead role. Last week he ran the ball 14 times for 41 yards and two touchdowns, while adding catching all four of his targets for 30 yards.

Jaylen Warren, Steelers

The Steelers running back had the bye week to rest his knee and it seems he is back on track to play against the Browns in Week 6. It’s a tough matchup, but he had been seeing a big chunk of the running back touches before his injury.
