The Minnesota Vikings will get their 2024 first-round pick JJ McCarthy back this week from his high ankle sprain. Carson Wentz had taken over for McCarthy while he was injured, but had to have season ending surgery on his non-throwing shoulder.
TJ Hockenson start or sit: Week 9 fantasy football advice
We break down the fantasy football outlook of TJ Hockenson ahead of Week 9

McCarthy has played in two games and looked mostly bad, but did show signs in the 4th quarter of Week 1 that he could get the job done. He of course needs more opportunities to prove himself and those start back up this week against a tough Lions defense.
One of his primary targets should be tight end TJ Hockenson, but in his first two games, Hockenson saw just seven targets from McCarthy. Hockenson caught four of those for 27 total yards.
Below, we’ll go over TJ Hockenson’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 9.
Fantasy Football analysis: Vikings, TE, TJ Hockenson
The Lions have been a little above average against tight ends this season, allowing the 22nd most receptions and 18th most yards to the position. Overall, they’re third-best in DVOA against the pass and fourth-best against the run. They aren’t a team you want to face for fantasy upside. I’d very much like to see Hockenson and McCarthy get going before starting him.
