The San Francisco 49ers will take their 5-3 record to New Jersey to face Jaxson Dart and the 2-6 Giants as 2.5-point favorites. Their starting quarterback, Brock Purdy, is officially questionable with turf toe. Purdy’s toe injury flared up during their Week 4 loss to the Jaguars and he’s been unable to play the last four games.
Brock Purdy injury: What status means for Week 9 vs. Giants
Brock Purdy is dealing with turf toe for Week 9. We break down what it means for fantasy football decisions.

Brock Purdy injury updates
With Purdy questionable, head coach Kyle Shanahan has said he has a “chance to be available,” but Mac Jones will get the start, per Nick Wagoner. We’ll see if he can suit up as the emergency No. 3 quarterback or if he gets elevated to backup. After apparently returning too soon from his injury in Week 4, it would seem likely the 49ers continue to play it safe with him, with next week’s divisional matchup with the Rams as a likely game for a return.
Fantasy football analysis
Mac Jones has played well enough in Purdy’s place, but at this point he hasn’t shown enough for there to be any kind of quarterback controversy. Jones just isn’t as dynamic as Purdy in and out of the pocket. Jones has done enough to keep the team’s fantasy relevant players fantasy relevant, as we’ve seen Christian McCaffrey continue to get force fed and players like Kendrick Bourne and George Kittle see useful fantasy work.
This matchup with the Giants is a positive one, and wide receiver Jauan Jennings is supposedly on the mend. I like for him to put together one of his better games this week, but in the end we’d like to see Purdy out there, as he should be able to support more fantasy players than Jones.
