Thursday Night Football, Week 15: Chargers Skill Players And Defense Looking Good; 49ers Expected To Struggle
Thursday Night Football means setting your fantasy rosters a little earlier, we’ve got player rankings for the 49ers and the Chargers.
[UPDATE]: Antonio Gates is listed as doubtful and the consensus is now leaning towards him not playing. You’ll have to pay attention right up until game time to find out. Also, keep an eye on Malcolm Floyd, he’s questionable but the Chargers think he will play. But you’ll need to watch that one just to make sure. [END UPDATE]
The 49ers looked like world-beaters last week against Seattle, the return of Alex Smith at quarterback was a smashing success. But that was the Seahawks defense, this week, they get a much sterner test. The Chargers are near the top in many defensive categories, so last week's points bonanza from the 49ers is unlikely to repeat.
On the other side of the ball, the Chargers skill players are good bets this week. Philip Rivers is a must-play, and Antonio Gates, even though injured, is still a force (if he plays, see update above). You can add Malcolm Floyd to the list, last week he put up two touchdowns (if he plays, see update above). Even running back Mike Tolbert is having a good fantasy year.
The 49ers offense could have a rough go of it this week, especially with no Frank Gore. You can probably count on Vernon Davis to do some damage, but the rest of the guys are risky. Michael Crabtree is a guy you could take a shot on, but he's showing up on a lot of "sit" lists this week.
The consensus from the gurus is play the Chargers defense and skill players, plus the kicker, but stay away from anyone not named Vernon Davis on the 49ers.
