The Kansas City Chiefs used a second round pick on Dexter McCluster and labeled him a receiver. Folks in fantasy football circles were excited because McCluster had also spent some time at running back for Ole Miss so he had the ability to score points in a number of ways.
Dexter McCluster’s Fantasy Football Impact Finally Comes
Through the first two weeks of the NFL season, McCluster had touched the ball on offense just four times for 12 yards. His big impact came in the return game with a 94-yard punt return touchdown to open the season in Week 1.
It was disappointing to say the least.
On Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, McCluster came alive.
He caught three passes for 69 yards including a highlight-reel 31-yard catch and run that resulted in him diving into the end zone.
What the Chiefs are doing is smart. They’re not asking McCluster to go on long, complicated routes. They’re getting him the ball near the line of scrimmage with blockers ahead of him because, once he gets into space, the defense is in trouble (and your fantasy football team is doing much better).
