Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers following surgery to repair a broken left index finger. Cooley himself anticipates missing anywhere from three-to-seven weeks, Rich Campbell of The Washington Times reports.
Chris Cooley Injury Update: Redskins TE Ruled Out Following Surgery On Finger
”My biggest focus over the next month will be staying in great shape, getting myself ready to play football,” Cooley said on Friday.
Cooley's timeline would keep him out of the Redskins' October 30 game against the Buffalo Bills in Toronto and their home game against the NFC West-leading San Francisco 49ers on November 6. The additional time off should also help Cooley's surgically-repaired left knee, which kept him out of training camp and reportedly needed to have fluid drained from it last week.
The two-time Pro Bowler is coming off a 2010 season where he caught 77 passes and tied a career-high with 849 yards. Through five games, Cooley has just eight receptions for 65 yards, a lack of production that can be tied to his lack of health and instability at the quarterback position, with Rex Grossman giving way to John Beck in the fourth quarter of last week's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
