Beanie Wells Injury Update: Knee Sprain Could Be Short Or Long Term Injury

Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells suffered a knee sprain in the second quarter of the Cardinals Sunday contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the nature of the injury remains a mystery for now. After Wells went down he was escorted to the locker room by trainers where he was diagnosed with a sprained knee. This is the same knee on which Wells had surgery prior to last season.

Following the game, head coach Ken Whisenthunt stated that he was not sure yet if it was a short or long term injury. Once Wells went down, Whisenhunt went with Alfonso Smith for five carries and LaRod Stephens-Howling for two receptions. The Cardinals more or less abandoned the run once Wells went down. If Wells is out for extended time, it remains to be seen whether smith or Stephens-Howling would get the primary carries.

The Cardinals head on the road to face the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday, which means we'll get a practice participation report this Wednesday. Fantasy owners will be hoping for news sooner than that in order to address waiver wire needs. We'll be back with an update as soon as more information becomes available.
