It’s almost time to start the bulk of the Week 1 NFL games. In anticipation of the start of the games, we asked out partners over at numberFire.com to give us a few guys who will go boom on this first week of the fantasy season, and a few guys who will go bust. numberFire.com has a lot of snazzy algorithms and number-crunching routines that spit out their projections each week. Based on that, here’s what they think.
Fantasy Football Week 1 Boom Or Bust: Who Should You Start?
The fantasy season starts tonight. We’ve looked at the games and picked guys who will go ‘Boom’ and guys who will go ‘Bust’ in the first week of action.
Boom:
QB - Jason Campbell vs Denver. While only really applicable in deep leagues, Jason Campbell is going up against a pass defense that was 3rd worst in the league last season. Campbell has also had some success against the Broncos, throwing for more yards and touchdowns against them than any other team last season.
RB - Frank Gore vs Seattle. Gore is fully healthy and going up against the leagues worst run defenses in Seattle. Expect 100+ total yards and a TD in week 1.
WR - Dwayne Bowe vs Buffalo. While Cassel’s ribs are a little shaky, we love big Dwayne Bowe going up against the dismal Buffalo secondary. Expect a big week 1 from last year’s #2 receiving performer.
Bust:
QB - Drew Brees vs Green Bay. It’s tough to ever bet against Drew Brees but he’s playing an unbelievable pass defense in the Packers. We are projecting him as a below average start for week 1.
RB - Maurice Jones-Drew vs Tennessee. While we do like MJD this year, he is going up against an extremely underrated run defense in Tennessee. The Titans actually had the most efficient run defense last season after adjusting for strength of schedule.
WR - DeSean Jackson vs St. Louis. Expect lots of deep attempts to DeSean this week, but we think Jackson is a risky start. If you’re starting him you are relying too much on his big play potential.
