Fantasy football leaders: Adrian Peterson has a big day, Fred Jackson injured

Fred Jackson’s possible concussion bodes the biggest impact for Week 11.

Leon Halip

We continue with out look around the fantasy landscape each week. How much does an injury to Fred Jackson impact C.J. Spiller? I don't know, but don't cry over Spillered milk. Spiller? I hardly know her.

He has a funny name, is what I’m driving at there.

Here is the biggest good, bad, and injured news for running backs in Week 10:

The Good

Adrian Peterson against the Lions (I WONDER IF CHRIS JOHNSON TORE HIS ACL RECENTLY)

It would make sense that struggling running backs might start tearing their ACLs on purpose since it seems to work so well for Adrian Peterson. I’m running out of things to say about AP’s remarkable 2012 season. UNFANTASTALIEVABLE!

Coming off injury, AP leads the league in yardage (1,128) and yards per game (112.8) which is also a career-high. All things considered, he's likely the player that should have been taken number one in the draft this year, but we still got six games remaining. The Vikings have a bye and then four of their final six on the road, including two of the next three against the Bears.

Not easy, but what haven’t we seen Peterson already overcome?

Fred Jackson against the Patriots (HE GAVE YOU A DOUBLE-DIP)

The only running back to score two rushing touchdowns on Sunday was Fred Jackson. He added 80 yards on the ground and 35 through the air, while C.J. Spiller had 131 total yards of his own. The 80 was a season-high for Jackson, a highlight in a disappointing season.

Both players remain flex plays.

Chris Johnson against the Dolphins (CALLING ALL FEET, GET INTO MY MOUTH)

The fun of making CJ2K is all but gone after another big day from Chris Johnson. He’s back up to 5.1 yards per carry on the season after 126 yards against Miami, giving him 652 yards over the last five games.

CJ2K is an ‘RB1, K?’ again.

Honorable Mentions: Marshawn Lynch (Over 1,000 yard mark), Steven Jackson (First 100-yard game of 2012), Danny Woodhead (1 TD on ground, 1 TD in air)

The Bad

Reggie Bush against the Titans (LETTING THE BALL GO LIKE IT'S A HEISMAN TROPHY)

One of the biggest comeback stories of the last two years is Reggie Bush in Miami, but that didn’t stop him from getting benched against Tennessee after a first half fumble. “I didn’t deserve to be back in there,” said Bush after the game but fantasy owners disagree. “Get in there!” they say.

Bush ended with 21 yards rushing, 8 yards receiving, and one very costly fumble.

He should be back to RB1 status against the Bills next week.

Rashad Jennings against the Colts (NOT MAURICE JONES-DREW)

I think we can all agree on that. Rashad Jennings managed just 27 yards against the Colts on Thursday, leaving him at 3.0 YPC on the year. It’s amazing what MJD can do behind that line.

It would be hard to play Jennings against the Texans next week, or for however long Jones-Drew is out.

Doug Martin against the Chargers (WELL, IT HAD TO BE A LITTLE DISAPPOINTING)

On his way to all the rookie accolades a player could dream of, it’s not surprising if you’re a little disappointed after Doug Martin managed “only” 68 yards on the ground and 51 yards in the air. You can’t be too mad at 119 total yards, but it’s certainly not 300 yards!

He was also held out of the end zone. Martin remains 4th in the NFL in yards per game and as an RB1.

Matt Forte against the Texans (PLAYING HOUSTON IS NOT YOUR FORTE)

A week after putting up over 21 fantasy points in a blowout over Tennessee, Matt Forte had one of his lowest outputs of the year with 39 yards rushing and -3 receiving against the Texans. This next stretch doesn't get much easier, facing the 49ers, Vikings, and Seahawks.

Depending on how much time Jay Cutler misses, Forte could become even more integral to the offense. The 49ers did just give up over 100 to Steven Jackson, even if it was a 5-quarter game.

Honorable Mentions: Ray Rice (68 total yards), BenJarvus Green-Ellis (58 total yards), Michael Turner (15 yards!)

The Injured

Fred Jackson may have been good, but there’s concern that he suffered a concussion in the loss. With a short week (Bills vs Dolphins on Thursday night because of course Bills vs Dolphins on Thursday night) it doesn’t look good for Jackson. This gives C.J. Spiller a must-start tag if Jackson is out.

Ahmad Bradshaw had X-rays (won't say where) so he's another one to watch. The Giants are on a bye.

The Patriots lost both of their starting guards to injury, which could prove important for Stevan Ridley, Danny Woodhead, and the rest of the offense.
