New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles will not play Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles because of a hand injury that required surgery. Sproles appeared on the injury report after missing practice on Thursday.
Darren Sproles ruled out for Monday, no fantasy value for Week 9
New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles (hand) has been ruled out for Monday’s game with the Philadelphia Eagles. We break down the fantasy implications.

Coach Joe Vitt on Friday provided no firm timetable for Sproles to return and would only say that Sproles would be checked out again next week. Sproles was held to minus-1 yard on four carries in the loss to the Denver Broncos but caught seven passes for 56 yards and a touchdown. Pierre Thomas will likely see a heavier workload with Sproles out of the lineup.
Fantasy Impact: This is a big loss for fantasy owners, especially in PPR leagues. Sproles didn't have much value as a rusher but racked up a lot of yards coming out of the backfield. Thomas is a more traditional back but not nearly as good a pass-catcher. Mark Ingram could also share some carries against Philadelphia.
For Week 9, Thomas goes from a flex play to legitimate No. 2 fantasy option at running back. Ingram will also see a slight value increase but has not proven to be reliable. Thomas is the better back to start this week.
