Matthew Stafford went 27-for-45 passing for 264 yards, one touchdown and one interception as the Detroit Lions fell to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. Stafford misfired on several opportunities to hit big plays, on his way to an average of 5.9 yards per attempt.
Matthew Stafford misfires for fantasy owners on Sunday Night Football
Matthew Stafford went 27-for-45 passing for 264 yards, one touchdown and one interception during the Lions’ loss to the Packers on Sunday Night Football. We break down the fantasy implications.
Stafford has recorded a lower YPA in just one other games this season, a loss to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Week 7. He has thrown multiple touchdowns in just three of 13 games played this season.
Fantasy Impact: One would think that having Calvin Johnson and a pair of solid tight ends in Brandon Pettigrew and Tony Scheffler would be a boon for Stafford near the goal line. Unfortunately, the Lions struggled to get the ball close to the end zone Sunday.
Stafford's struggles this season haven't entirely been on him. His wide receiver corps has struggled to hold onto the ball, much less stay healthy. He wasn't sharp in the cold and snow of Lambeau Field, however. Stafford tends to be a pretty good fantasy option because he is usually able to put up a lot of yards on a weekly basis. Games against the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears to close the season do not inspire confidence in his fantasy value during the playoffs, however.
