Despite reports to the contrary, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was not medically cleared to play against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. An earlier report from CBS Sports indicated that Roethlisberger was cleared to fully participate in practice, but this was not the case. The Post-Gazette reports that the Steelers knew early in the week that Charlie Batch would get the start against Baltimore.

Roethlisberger sprained his shoulder and injured his ribs on Nov. 12 against the Kansas City Chiefs and has not played since then. It is possible he could return against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, Dec. 9.
Fantasy Impact: The typical recovery time for Roethlisberger’s injury was listed as four to six weeks, so it would have been a big surprise if he was able to go against the Ravens just three weeks after getting injured. It seems much more likely that he would return against the Chargers this week.
The Steelers won’t know if Roethlisberger is able to play until at least the middle of the week. If he is capable of starting he has a decent matchup against the Chargers.
