The 49ers did not send any of their starters on defense out in the fourth game of the preseason, and a significant portion of the offense also received the night off. Only Alex Smith, Bruce Miller and the first-string offensive line took the field on that side of the ball.
49ers Sit Majority of Starters Against San Diego: Fantasy Implications
San Francisco did not send many of its starters out on Thursday night. We break down the fantasy implications.

Analysis: San Francisco isn't taking any risks with its skill players or any of the starting defense. The 49ers finished with one of the top-ranked defenses in 2011, a huge factor in their success during the regular season and run in the postseason. With the depth chart on that side basically set, Jim Harbaugh decided to let the starting defense to stay off the field until the regular season rolls around. Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss and Frank Gore were all noteworthy offensive performers on the bench, but fantasy owners shouldn't worry about any of them sitting out.
