Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart is unlikely to come off the physically unable to perform list in time for the team's Week 7 matchup against the St. Louis Rams, according to Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer. The outlook for Stewart and his ankle injury has been positive for the past few weeks, but the initial thought that he could be ready for Week 7 now seems misguided.
Jonathan Stewart could need more time on PUP list, no fantasy value just yet
Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart could need more time on the PUP list. We break down the fantasy implications.

Stewart was placed on the PUP before the season following surgery on the right ankle. The PUP list requires players to miss the first six weeks of the regular season before they are eligible to return and thus count against the 53-man roster. The team does have three weeks to make a decision on whether or not to activate Stewart for the remainder of the season, however.
The Panthers aren't hurting in the running game, which should make it easier for them to keep Stewart on the sidelines for longer. They have the No. 8 rushing attack in the NFL, with 135.8 rushing yards per game on average. Starter DeAngelo Williams has 91 carries for 394 yards, though he's struggled to make it into the end zone. Cam Newton has 153 yard and two touchdowns, while Mike Tolbert has 111 yards and two touchdowns as well.
Fantasy Impact: If Stewart is still available in your leagues, now is the time to scoop him up, as he could take over for Williams when healthy. Many fantasy owners with struggles at the RB position have already moved in on Stewart, waiting for his activation, however. He’s likely a no-go this week, though. He’d probably be limited even if he did play.
