Fantasy football waiver wire: 5 QBs to target for Week 7

Need a replacement for Drew Brees this week? Here are some waiver wire targets worth looking at.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders are on bye this week. That takes Drew Brees out of the fantasy picture for now, sending most owners to the waiver wire looking for reinforcements. At this point in the season, we have a pretty good idea of which quarterbacks are worth keeping and which ones should be dropped, but there are still a handful of waiver gems out there.

Here are five quarterbacks owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues worth your attention.

Terrelle Pryor, Oakland Raiders (owned in 37 percent of leagues)

Don't panic too much about Pryor's Week 6 performance. His offensive line had no prayer against Kansas City's fierce front seven, leading to 10 sacks and three interceptions. It was the first time since the season opener that he committed a turnover, and he should continue to keep Oakland in games with his dual-threat ability. Pryor gets a much-needed bye in Week 7, and will be facing the Steelers, Eagles and Giants after that. This might be your last chance to buy low on him.

Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins (owned in 19 percent of leagues)

Tannehill has shown some promise in his second year, but he continues to be victimized by a horrid offensive line that has given up 24 sacks in just five games. Despite the problems on the supporting cast, he remains a good bet to throw for 250-300 yards and a touchdown or two per week. That’s about as good as you can hope for out of a QB2 bye-week filler.

Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles (owned in 13 percent of leagues)

The Eagles might have a full-blown quarterback controversy on their hands. Foles took over for an injured Michael Vick and carved up the Buccaneers. More importantly, he had little to no issues running Chip Kelly's offense and looked comfortable in the scheme. Through three games of limited action, Foles has completed 41-of-61 passes for 542 yards, six touchdowns, zero interceptions and an impressive 8.9 yards per attempt.

Don't be surprised if Kelly says Vick "needs a couple more weeks" just to get a longer look at Foles. The Eagles face the Cowboys, Redskins and Raiders next, giving Foles legitimate QB1 upside if he keeps up this kind of production.

Josh Freeman, Minnesota Vikings (owned in 10 percent of leagues)

Freeman is getting a fresh start in Minnesota after a messy divorce from the Buccaneers. The Vikings are expected to name him the starter against the Giants. Freeman’s numbers were far from impressive in Tampa, but the talent is still there and a change of scenery could do him well. He’s someone to monitor over the coming weeks as he auditions for a new contract in the offseason.

Chad Henne, Jacksonville Jaguars (owned in 4 percent of leagues)

Henne is not a good quarterback, and he should probably stay on the waiver wire in most leagues — like he is right now. Still, he’s good for some garbage time yards every week with the Jaguars constantly playing from behind. Only worth considering in two-quarterback leagues or if you’re in a serious bye week crunch.
