Chargers running back Ryan Mathews sprang to life on Monday night, racking-up a season high in rushing yards and carries.
Ryan Mathews surprises fantasy owners with 102 yards vs Colts
The Chargers’ early down back posted his first 100-yard game of the season versus the Colts on Monday night. We break down the fantasy implications.

During an efficient and conservative game plan that the Chargers offense executed to near perfection, Mathews carried the ball 22 times for 102 yards. It was a rare output for Mathews, who had not eclipsed the 100-yard mark since Week 12 of 2011 versus the Bills. Mathews looked impressive throughout the game with the exception of a mental error where he ran out of bounds with the team up by seven with just over two minutes to go in the game. Aside from that, Mathews routinely picked up chunks of yardage and was more than good enough to help the Chargers seal a gritty victory.
Fantasy Spin: Two words for Mathews' owners -- sell high. With Mathews' frustrating injury history and inconsistency, owners would be well-advised to shop the Chargers' early-down back to teams in desperate need of a running back. While his most recent game is a good one, desperate owners should not be too difficult to find six games into the season with injuries and bye weeks putting a damper on lineups. Mathews does have an attractive matchup versus the Jaguars in Week 7, so owners could play the "long con" and flex him this week to pad his value a little more before dealing him. It would be risky, but the return could be quite large.
