Steve Smith caught four passes for 42 yards on a team-high seven targets in Week 8 against the Buccaneers. He made a few key plays in the Panthers passing game, but he wasn’t needed to step up much as Carolina remained comfortably in the driver’s seat throughout the night.
Steve Smith cools off for mediocre fantasy outing in Week 8
After scoring in each of the last two weeks, Steve Smith failed to find the end zone in Tampa. We break down the fantasy implications.

Smith has scored in three of seven games in 2013, but he has yet to exceed 70+ yards. The veteran wideout is averaging 7.9 targets per game.
Fantasy impact: It’s not like Cam Newton is looking elsewhere when he turns to the air. Smith remains the primary target for Newton, but the duo have not yet seen a break out through seven games.
Expect better numbers from Smith in Week 9 when he takes on the Falcons. Atlanta’s secondary doesn’t excel against the pass, and Smith went for 109 yards in his last meeting with this NFC South foe.
